The Challenge
Getting a commercial trucking policy quoted is slow for everyone involved.
The trucker starts it. Before anyone can price a policy, someone has to assemble the carrier’s DOT authority, business entity details, every truck and trailer with VIN and value, every driver with their history, the cargo mix, the operating radius, and a coverage selection spanning a dozen products with independent limits and deductibles.
Traditionally that means a phone call with an agent, a PDF questionnaire, and a wait measured in days. The agent chases missing fields. The submission reaches an underwriter incomplete and bounces back. Meanwhile the trucker, whose time is measured in loads, not business days, is parked waiting on a number.
Navigator wanted that collapsed into something an owner-operator could finish on their phone during a fuel stop.
What We Built
An app that gets a trucker from a phone number to a real, bindable quote in one sitting.
The key move was refusing to ask for anything we could find ourselves. The phone number a user signs in with is also the key to their federal carrier record. By the time they’ve entered their verification code, the app has already retrieved their legal business name, authority type, address, and equipment list, VINs included. The single biggest reason quote flows get abandoned is a keyboard, and we removed most of it.
From there the app does the work an agent would otherwise do by hand: it recognizes whether the user runs under their own authority or leased to a carrier and shows only the coverages that apply to them, constrains every limit and deductible to what that specific coverage actually permits, and routes anyone outside the product’s appetite to an honest answer early rather than six steps later.
The result is a quote that’s complete and correct when it’s submitted, which is what makes this faster on the other side of the desk, too. Nothing needs chasing. Nothing bounces back for a missing field. The agency gets an underwriting-ready submission instead of a starting point, and the trucker gets a real price with live carrier rating behind it instead of an estimate and a callback.
